Guitarist \u003cstrong\u003eTom Dowse\u003c\/strong\u003e, drummer \u003cstrong\u003eNick Buxton\u003c\/strong\u003e, and bassist \u003cstrong\u003eLewis Maynard\u003c\/strong\u003e had been friends and musical collaborators for years, and invited mutual friend \u003cstrong\u003eFlorence Shaw\u003c\/strong\u003e – a visual artist, picture researcher and drawing lecturer – to join the band in 2017. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWith clear musical influences from\u003cstrong\u003e the Feelies, the Necessaries, the B52s and Pylon,\u003c\/strong\u003e and constrained by the small garage space they rehearsed in, \u003cstrong\u003eDry Cleaning\u003c\/strong\u003e were drawn to making simple music; direct and uncomplicated, anything superfluous left behind. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn March 2018, the group recorded their 6-track debut EP \u003cstrong\u003eSweet Princess\u003c\/strong\u003e with producer \u003cstrong\u003eKristian Craig Robinson\u003c\/strong\u003e in a single day. Two months later, they played their first live show and released the EP in August. \u003cstrong\u003eSweet Princess\u003c\/strong\u003e was a thrilling debut, its dizzying and restless instrumentals with \u003cstrong\u003eShaw’s\u003c\/strong\u003e sardonic vocals delivering a satirical collage of witty observations and social commentary.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eA further 6 songs in the form of the \u003cstrong\u003eBoundary Road Snacks and Drinks EP\u003c\/strong\u003e quickly followed two months after.
