On the surface, it's unmistakably pop music - there's vocals, there's proper hooks, there's bombastic stabs - but before any of \u003cstrong\u003eHasegawa's\u003c\/strong\u003e compositions can breathe, he inevitably hits us with a mercilessly sliced break, electric piano solo or hallucinatory synth improvisation. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIt's the kind of genre-baiting stylistic eccentricity that Japan in particularly has always done so well, and we can hear traces of \u003cstrong\u003eCornelius\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eYMO\u003c\/strong\u003e in \u003cstrong\u003eHasegawa's\u003c\/strong\u003e ambitious, multifaceted compositions.
