Channelling themes of frustration and loneliness, \u003cstrong\u003eHemingway\u003c\/strong\u003e says he connected deeply with the book while “\u003cem\u003ewaiting for the future to happen to me.”\u003c\/em\u003e \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eOn Vera’s performance, he adds, “\u003cem\u003eI sent it to Vera and we talked about her harnessing \u003cstrong\u003eJonnine Standish of HTRK (à la ‘I Know A Girl Called Jonny’ by Rowland S. Howard),\u003c\/strong\u003e but what she brought far exceeded what I could have ever envisioned.” \u003c\/em\u003eThe result is a steady, considered duet in 3\/4 time with a deliberate sparseness culminating in a cathartic instrumental outro which brings the track to an emotive close.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWings of Desire,\u003c\/strong\u003e the follow-up to \u003cstrong\u003eHemingway’s \u003c\/strong\u003eacclaimed 2023 debut \u003cstrong\u003eStrangers Again\u003c\/strong\u003e, is a ten-track album written during a turbulent period in his life, that captures the raw emotion and reflection of that time. Relocating from the UK back to Aotearoa in 2022 and at the end of a long-term relationship, Hemingway found himself disconnected from his desires, his identity and the people around him. These experiences poured into what has become his most expansive and euphoric era of music to date.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe title track and New Zealand Alternative Radio chart topper ‘\u003cstrong\u003eWings of Desire’ \u003c\/strong\u003eopens the album with the lyric “I\u003cem\u003e wanna live on the wings of desire”\u003c\/em\u003e, a reference to the 1987 \u003cstrong\u003eWim Wenders \u003c\/strong\u003eclassic film, about the angel who gives up his wings for a chance at the human experience of love.
