Although not strictly speaking an opera, it was a staged, sacred drama by one of the leading lights of the Camerata, whose desire to achieve music drama he shared. First performed in 1600 - the same year as the Peri and Caccini versions of Euridice - Rappresentazione?both looks to the past as much to the future and occasionally employs the monodic style of the 'new music'.
